What Is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a is a completely natural, focused state of awareness where the body is fully relaxed, but the mind is awake. Whether you are aware of it or not, you go in and out of hypnosis throughout the day. We all experience the hypnagogic state just upon waking and just before going to sleep. This is the wonderful state of complete physical and mental relaxation where rather than being fully asleep, there is a level of being awake and you experience a high level of focus and awareness.


Like I mentioned earlier, you repeatedly go in and out of hypnosis throughout your day. Have you ever been driving and missed your exit on the freeway? Or, been deeply absorbed in a movie and forgot you are actually in a room full of strangers watching a projected image of actors on a screen? Perhaps you’ve zoned out and daydreamed while someone was talking to you. All of these are all examples of being in a state of hypnosis. The hypnotic state that you will reach with me will allow to access your subconscious mind where the positive change and transformation you desire for yourself can start to take place.

What Hypnosis is NOT

When most people hear the word “hypnosis,” they think of swinging watches and/or the hypnotist telling someone to bark like a dog or cluck like a chicken on command. While that kind of hypnosis does exist, it is for the sole purposes of entertainment. The work that is done is my practice is sacred; it is strictly used as a healing tool where you are completely alert and in full control of your mind and body while in the hypnotic state.


You can hear, speak, and even walk around. Your body is relaxed and comfortable. As a client you will never lose consciousness. You will never surrender your will. You will never unknowingly reveal secrets. You will never become weak minded, gullible, or succumb to the will of another. You would never say or do something while in hypnosis that you would not say or do while conscious.

Does hypnotherapy really work?

It absolutely, powerfully works. In recent years, hypnosis and hypnotherapy has become an accepted treatment to address a wide variety of issues and concerns.


Researchers and professors in universities such as Stanford, Harvard, and Penn State, just to name a few, have conducted clinical studies in hypnosis and found that hypnosis does in fact alter the brain and can be used for a multitude of concerns. Hypnotherapy is an extremely powerful and effective tool, and its results are long lasting. (See links below for more information.)


How does hypnotherapy work?

When you are in a hypnotic state, your conscious mind, also known as the Critical Factor, is relaxed which allows access to your sub-conscious mind. Much like a computer, the subconscious mind holds all your “programming.”


You can “know” in your conscious mind that you want to make a change and be determined to make that change, but if your computer is “programmed” to keep running an old not so effective program, then it is nearly impossible to make lasting change.


With me as your hypnotherapist, we will transform and/or heal the old programming with some powerful hypnotic modalities because when you transform the subconscious programming, the behavior follows.

Are you wondering if you can be hypnotized?

In our first session, I will answer any questions you may have before we start. Plus, we will also do an in-depth intake where I will do a couple receptivity exercises with you. These will really highlight the power of the sub-conscious mind.

What does hypnosis feel like?

Hypnosis physically feels very comfortable, peaceful and pleasant. Your body is extremely relaxed, and your mind is aware and awake. After a hypnotherapy session, you will feel a sense of rejuvenation and feel incredibly refreshed.​

Will I lose control of myself?

No, absolutely not. Hypnotherapy is a way of harnessing the power of your mind and therefore giving you more control. You cannot be hypnotized unwillingly, and you cannot be prompted to do something that is outside of your moral code or say or reveal anything you do not want to while conscious.​

Can I get stuck in hypnosis?

No, you may come out of hypnosis session any time you wish. In a hypnotherapy session, I would end a hypnotherapy session by de-hypnotizing you. But if we were interrupted, you would naturally either return to full alertness or you would fall asleep.​

What happens in the first hypnotherapy session?

Sessions are typically 80 to 120 minutes. You will be quite surprised as to how fast the time goes based on how much work we accomplish and how relaxed you feel afterwards. The first session usually consists of the following four main components:


  • An in depth in-take to understand what specific issues and/or challenges you are currently dealing with, what and how you feel about them, and what your desired outcome is from our hypnotherapy sessions together.​
  • A detailed description of how hypnotherapy works in the human mind for your specific issue, and what you should expect to feel and experience while in hypnosis.
  • Some receptivity exercises will be done in the first (and possibly in the second if you have one) session so that we can learn a little about how you and I communicate. It is of the utmost importance for me to understand how you receive information. This will help us to make the most impactful, positive changes in your subconscious mind.
  • The last part of the first session is hypnotic programming where we will begin the process of transforming your life.

Can I just do one session?

Yes, of course, if you choose to. After the first session and if you feel comfortable and aligned with my approach, I may recommend, or you may want, additional sessions depending on what it is you want to achieve.


The mind is like training the body; if you only go to the gym once, your results will reflect that.

How many sessions would I need?

Everyone and their individual experience are unique. After our first session, we can both gage your needs and goals to determine what would works best for you.

Will it work? Is there some guarantee?

I can absolutely guarantee my commitment to your transformation. I do not offer a guarantee in your ability to reach your goals, as that is something only you can truly do by being open and willing to trust the process and my skill to guide you.


However, if you do those things, I can assure you a high rate of success.

Do you accept insurance?

I do not work with insurance companies.

Can I cancel or reschedule an appointment?

Yes of course! We all know that life happens, and we all must have some flexibility. When and if this does happen, I ask that you be mindful and considerate and advise me as soon as possible and I will do the same.


In general, I have a 48-hour cancellation policy.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

Yes, due to the loss of time to refill a 2-hour slot, an ideal and customary cancellation time frame is 48 hours.

What is a free initial phone consultation?

This is a no commitment, initial call where we simply get to know one another for your ultimate good. If the very best-case scenario, we would end the call with a scheduled appointment. In the worst, we would end the call as acquaintances. When you feel comfortable, call me at (941) 254-4208 .


(Please note that I only see clients who voluntarily and selectively call or email without any coercion from another person. The hypnotic process is power and impactful for those who want it, and this desire is essential to a successful outcome.)

Is our work confidential?

Absolutely, as a member of the International Association of Interpersonal Hypnotherapists(IAIH), I strictly adhere to all federal HIPAA guidelines.


Anything you say during our sessions is held in confidence unless you are at direct risk of harm to yourself or another.

Do you offer video or remote sessions?

Yes, I absolutely do. I have also experienced them as a client so I know that they can be done through video chat quite successfully. The most important part of hypnotherapy for your greatest success is your comfort and your willingness to be open to it.


Therefore, your comfort level is very important. In my remote hypnotherapy sessions, all that is needed is a good internet connection and a laptop or cell phone with a video camera. I would send you a link before our session then you may have to download an app, but it would be very simple.

Do you take notes or document our session?

Yes, I take notes and they are fully HIPAA-compliant, secure and do not include any major identifiers. My notes simply consist of some key phrases and things you say that help me understand or remember how you view the situation or what we have already processed.

Do I need to wear special clothing?

No, wear whatever you feel comfortable in. If you come to my office, you will be sitting and lounging in a recliner. I will have a clean blanket and pillows for your further comfort.

Who benefits from hypnotherapy?

Anyone who has “stuff,” “baggage,” or “issues.” In short—everyone! We all have opportunities and challenges in our lives. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to respond to life with a clear filter instead of the foggy filter of past experience? I can help with this.
